Teeth Whitening

Today, tooth whitening has become the most popular elective procedure in dentistry, as is a simple non invasive approach to cosmetically enhancing your appearance.

Tooth discolouration is mainly attributed to the effects of ageing, colouring in food and drink, dental restorations, medicinal use, fluorosis (excessive levels of fluoride intake at an early age) and the use of tobacco.

Tooth whitening uses a gel applied to your teeth containing a peroxide agent, this is the whitening agent and is absorbed by your enamel and dentine producing lighter, whiter tooth tissue.

How much does it cost?

Prices start from £349 – Take home personalised whitening kit, follow up appointments before and after. We have been providing whitening for over 18 years and have had successful results. If you would like to speak to a teeth whitening specialist then please contact our reception team to book a consultation. Please note there is a £25 charge for initial consultations.

What can be done?

There are various methods which can be used to attempt to remove discolouration depending on what type.

You can have superficial staining or staining that is internal, that is within the enamel and dentine of a tooth.

Superficial staining can sometimes be removed by whitening toothpastes or by visiting a dental hygienist. This unfortunately is limited as it can only remove
superficial stains.

Internal staining can only be effectively treated if you use the following:

  • Veneers and/or crowns
  • Tooth whitening

Both of these can give great results but the first option is at great expense and loss of healthy tooth tissue to get the desired look, whereas tooth whitening is
a more affordable, less destructive way to get greater looking whiter teeth. Also, with the beauty of whitening, it can be repeated through life customising your tooth colour and smile to suit you and your appearance in years to come.

The procedure

Supplied as a take home whitening kit, this method is proven to be he most effective in achieving a stable end result.

We use thin, specially customised whitening trays to deliver the gels to the tooth surface. Our product is placed within the trays and then inserted over
the teeth to be whitened. Length and duration of wear varies from case to case and will be designed to your own particular needs and requirements
by the dentist.

  • Maintain good standard of oral hygiene.
  • Floss daily (or use alternative interdental cleaners)
  • Brush twice daily preferably with an electric toothbrush. The best brands and models can be recommended at consultation.
  • Attend your dentist regularly for check ups.
  • Eating and drinking a lot of strong coloured foods e.g. curries/red wine can lead to staining. Be aware of this and consume sensibly with no
    need to avoid totally.
